Productive International Romania - Track Record

Mercury Promotions

Mercury Promotions is a leading advertising agency on the Romanian market. Mercury's challenge was to offer their range of communications and logistical services to the various EU projects that are operational in Romania , as well as to bid for big EU tenders for public awareness campaigns. How could Mercury Promotions, who were used to dealing with multinational and corporate clients in a particular way, adapt their services to also deal with EU and other donor funded projects? Productive International Romania analyzed the situation and set up the Consultancy Department within Mercury Promotions, which proceeded to design projects and write proposals. As a result, Mercury is now managing a series of major EU projects, including the promotion of the EU's SAPARD fund (for agriculture and rural development), the promotion of child rights in Romania and a government-funded advertising campaign to prevent tax evasion.

The British Embassy Bucharest

The British Embassy in Bucharest wanted to challenge the considerable prejudice that exists in Romania about the Roma minority, and were looking for ideas that could have an impact. Productive International Romania proposed the making of an observational documentary film about a Roma family living in a village in N.E. Romania; a family of ten children, five of whom were at university. The proposal was accepted, the film was made and it won the "best Romanian film" prize at the Sibiu Film Fest in 2004, as well as the Prix Nanouk at the Paris Ethnographic Film Festival 2005. The film shows Roma people working the land and studying, which challenges popular perceptions that Roma do neither.

The National Development Plan (NDP) Unit

The National Development Plan (NDP) Unit, at Romania 's Ministry of Finance, faced the challenge of informing potential partners all over Romania about the importance of participating in the development of the national economic plan (an essential component for EU integration). The NDP has been relatively unknown until now. Productive International Romania researched the issue, drafted a communications strategy and carried out the following activities: improved the website, designed a corporate logo, produced brochures and posters and wrote an action plan for setting up public information centers all over the country. The NDP unit was also put in contact with the Romanian Information Centre in Brussels and business journalists in Bucharest.

Vaslui County Council

Vaslui County Council faced the problem of having a negative image in Romania , due to its relative poverty, and virtually no image abroad. This is a problem which discourages investment and makes it more difficult to deal with the county's economic and social challenges. Productive International Romania 's agreed task was to coordinate the publication of a series of high-quality brochures which portray the county in its most attractive light. A photographer and designer were commissioned and brochures were made on the county's tourism potential, its friendly business environment, its towns and cities, its culture and a surprisingly long list of famous persons who had come from Vaslui. The brochures were published in English and Romanian. As the Vaslui's first high quality publication of this nature, it had an immediate impact in both Romania and abroad, as people were able to see that, contrary to expectations, Vaslui is full of beautiful locations and interesting opportunities.

The British Government's Department for International Development (DFID)

The British Government's Department for International Development (DFID) was an active donor in Romania with annual contributions of approx 10,000,000 EURO per year. DFID's regional development programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of partnership in economic and social development, and was determined to communicate this message to local government officials, small farmers in the villages, as well as children in school. Productive International Romania was commissioned to produce a series of short documentary films on partnership, rural development and encouraging entrepreneurialism in schools.

Promeso Consulting

Promeso Consulting is a Romanian training agency which offers a complex range of services to international clients. Their challenge was to make themselves better known on the Romanian market and Productive International Romania helped them develop a communications plan which led to a new corporate identity (logo, letterhead, business cards, envelopes, folders, leaflets) and other promotional materials such as pens, t-shirts and baseball caps. Their website ( www.promeso.ro ) was also audited and improved.

The European Integration Directorate

The European Integration Directorate is a department within the Romanian Ministry of Interior. Their challenge was to prepare their staff for the changes that will occur once Romania joins the EU. Productive International Romania was asked by the British Embassy (the financer of this project) to conduct an assessment of the department in terms of communications and propose a series of trainings and seminars that would address the directorate's needs.

From Phare to Structural Funds

From Phare to Structural Funds is an EU-funded project which trains public officials in the management of EU Structural Funds (which come into effect when Romania joins the EU in 2007). The project involved a "Training Tour" all over Romania (over 100 seminars) and the challenge was to produce a series of training manuals and deliver them to the different training locations on time. Productive International Romania coordinated the design, production and distribution of all the training manuals.
